Our History
Lawrence and Sharon Blackwell are the owners of Blackwell Custom Cabinets. They were born and raised in Northern Virginia, right outside Washington DC. Lawrence has a background in the commercial and industrial arts. He learned cabinet making from his uncle-- a custom home builder and master carpenter. Sharon grew up loving fashion; and she worked in the field for over 20 years.
In 1991, they bought and renovated a vintage bungalow that needed custom cabinetry. The selection offered at big box home improvement centers and large cabinet shops did not fit their needs. They knew they were not alone in their frustration. So Lawrence, equipped with the training from his uncle, set out to provide affordable and unique custom cabinets to home owners just like them.
In 1999, Lawrence and Sharon launched Blackwell Custom Cabinets. They work together to design and build kitchen cabinets, entertainment centers, libraries, bookcases, vanities, bars, and wood closets using the highest quality domestic and/or exotic hardwoods in a totally custom environment.
With an open forum of Homeowner, Contractor, and Cabinet Maker, they create unique cabinetry to display your personality!
